These stair treads were 14 times
more difficult to make than a small braided rug would be.
There are 14 beginning joins, 14 first curves (called "twice
overs"), 14 tapers (hard on the hands and frustrating) and
14 butts (outer row splices so no beginning or end is visible).
They are, nevertheless, exact duplicates of each other, braid loop
by braid loop and one cannot be told from the other. I spent a lot
of time making sure that was the case.
